Classroom Updates

Welcome Back – 2021 Edition!

Hi,

Welcome back to school! I hope everyone had a fun, restful, and memory-making break. We had lots of Nerf wars and ate lots of yummy food. I am so excited I get to see you all again. I have missed seeing your smiling, gorgeous/handsome faces everyday.

We are going to be starting our new novel, Barrio Boy, by Ernesto Galarza. I know you all will have a lot to discuss, inquire, and help each other understand with this novel. I have no doubt that many of you will also be able to teach me some things as well.

School starts bright and early at 9:00 am on Monday, January 4, 2021 – be ready to go! Have a great rest of your break!

Love,

Mrs. Harp

April 21, 2020 – Project Time!

Good morning, loves!

I hope everyone had a great Monday. It was so awesome seeing you all on Meet yesterday. Today, we are going to be Meeting again, but it will take place in the Science Classroom. It will be at 1.

Make sure you are following these basic rules when Meeting:

  • Your microphone is off unless you need to talk.
  • Wait to get called to turn your microphone off.
  • The same class rules apply online as they do in person (Be nice/respectful).
  • Use the CHAT section to ask additional questions.

Tomorrow, from 11-1, the seventh grade team will be in front of the school to pass out assignments. If you need a packet, please EMAIL me as soon as possible,

Remember, I am here for you all. Email, text, call, and comment, and I will help you with whatever you need! Love you, guys!

Love,

Mrs. Harp

April 15, 2020 – Happy Wednesday!

Good morning, loves!

Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone had a restful night and is ready to start your days. How are you being kind today? Helping your parents with something around the house? Watching a brother or sister so someone can get something done? Remember, it doesn’t have to be a huge thing you do in order to show KINDNESS. It might even be a smile.

Today, you are finishing The Giver. I will be putting a short video in this update for Chapter 23. I want you to comment on this update: Where do YOU think Jonas is? What happened? It is NOT clear at all.

Make sure that if you have any questions whatsoever, you comment, email, or call me. I am here for you no matter what! I love you guys so much!!!

Love,

Mrs. Harp

April 10, 2020 – Happy Friday!

Good morning, Loves!

I hope everyone is having a happy Friday and is ready for the Easter weekend. Make it fun! We might not have our normal Easter celebrations, but we can still make it fun and memorable. If you have little brothers, sisters, cousins, or anyone else living with you, go hide some eggs or toys – it’ll be fun for everyone!

Today is catch-up day! We have read chapters 17-20 this week in The Giver. The only assignment to complete today is our writing into the day and reader’s response journal. Double-check and make sure your Specials assignments are completed.

You all continue to make me so proud! I love you guys so much! Email, comment, or call me if you need anything!

Love,

Mrs. Harp

April 7, 2020 – Don’t FORGET!

Good morning, my intelligent nuggets!

I hope this message finds everyone happy, safe, and healthy. Today, we are reading Chapter 18 in The Giver. I will be reading it as well, if you would like to listen and follow along. We are heading into an extremely important realization for Jonas and I want to ensure everyone understands exactly what is happening.

**IMPORTANT**

This is extremely important! Please don’t forget tomorrow, 4.8.20, from 11:30-1, the SEVENTH grade team will be handing out hard copies of assignments. PLEASE, please, please email me if you are going to be picking up a packet. I want to ensure we have enough for everyone. You may also bring completed work at this time.

I continue to be so impressed by you all! Thank you for being such awesome students. I love and miss you all SO much!

Love,

Mrs. Harp

April 6, 2020 – Happy Monday!

Good morning, Loves!

I hope everyone had an amazing weekend and was able to enjoy the gorgeous weather we had. We are getting super close to finishing our novel, The Giver. We are reading chapter 17 and answering three key questions from the chapter. There are some pretty intense events that will be taking place throughout the remainder of the novel.

I read a part of Chapter 17 to you in one of the short videos. Pay attention to how Lily talks about the twin getting Released. Email me or comment on the assignment if you aren’t understanding a question or a part in the novel.

**IMPORTANT**

Remember, this Wednesday, April 8, from 11:30-1, SEVENTH grade is handing out hard copies of assignments. If you have completed any assignments that are in paper form, you may drop those off as well.

Thank you for everything that you are doing! I can tell so, so many of you are taking your time and thoughtfully responding to the work you are being given. Remember to take your time, do what you can, don’t stress about something if you don’t understand it, and ask me for anything you need. I love you, guys!

Love,

Mrs. Harp

April 3, 2020 – Catch Up Day!

Good morning, Sunshines!

Happy Fri-YAY! I hope everyone is having an amazing morning. I want to challenge you to do something KIND for yourself today. It might be making a nice lunch for yourself or laying outside for a bit, but do something to show yourself some kindness – you deserve it.

Today, you will be doing some catch-up from the weeks leading up to today. I don’t want anyone to ever feel overwhelmed. That is not the point of what we are doing as a class or as a school. I want you to feel successful. That will look different to everyone. Some people go ahead a get all of their work done in one sitting. To others, that might be doing the bell work for each class, taking a break, and going back throughout the day to work on each classes work slowly. The nice thing about this type of learning is that you can go at your pace.

**IMPORTANT**

Don’t forget that next Wednesday (4.8.20) we will be passing out hard copies of work for students who need it. PLEASE email me to let me know that you will be there. I want to make sure there are enough copies for everyone. This is a time for you to drop off any work that has been completed as well. This is for SEVENTH grade only. If you have other students at Laveen, please email their teachers to see what their plan is.

Please email or call me if you have any questions about anything at all. I am here for your child, my students, and for you, the parents! Thank you for everything you all are doing to make this new normal work.

Love,

Mrs. Harp

April 2, 2020 – Question!

Good morning!

I hope everyone is ready to get outdoors for some fresh air! I’ll make today’s update short and sweet. Make sure you complete your writing into the day and your reader’s response journal. I had quite a few students ask for help with Chapter 16’s assignment. Instead of piling on more work, we are going to take a step back, the same way we would do in class, and make sure we understand what we are supposed to do and get it done the correct way.

I will be continuing to chat, answer questions in Classroom, and respond to emails with you all about our task. ASK me for help with exactly what you don’t understand. Don’t send me an email saying, “I need help”. Be specific!

**Important**

Next Wednesday, from 11:30-1, the SEVENTH grade team (Harp, Hoskins, and Pierce) will be in front of the school to drop off any work that has been completed and pass out new assignments. If you need hard copies of work, please EMAIL me, so we know how many copies to make. If they have any way to complete work online, we really need them to complete their bell work/writing into the day online, so they can get counted for attendance.

Love and miss you all! I put a read-aloud on our Classroom stream for you to enjoy!

Love,

Mrs. Harp

April 1, 2020 – Hello!

Good morning, my pranksters!

I hope you all are doing an awesome job of taking care of yourself and those people around you. A thing to remember – we feed off of each other’s energy. It’s okay to have a not-so-good day, but let me know how I can help you get back to or find the positive in your day.

Yesterday, I was at school, doing a couple things that needed to be finished before our “Stay at home” order was put in place, so I didn’t get to upload my daily letter to you all and I apologize. I am so proud of everyone who worked on their tasks for the day!

Our task for today is to read Chapter 16, create six (6) questions and answers, writing into the day, and reader’s response journal. Email or comment on the assignment, if you have any questions.

I miss you guys so much! Get outside at least one time today and do something that makes you happy!

Love,

Mrs. Harp
