Practice log

In this course, we will learn the basics of guitar playing and music theory.  Practice and progress are our goals this includes our ultimate goal of playing in a concert or showcase by year’s end!

Everyone learns at a different pace, so don’t compare yourself to other students.  It takes time, effort, and commitment on your part to get better.  It doesn’t happen overnight!  You will frequently be expected to work in pairs or small groups, further enhancing your social skills and developing a musical cooperative learning environment.

In order to get the most out of our class periods, I have a specific Discipline Plan that will be in effect at all times. Every student will have the chance to succeed and should feel comfortable sharing and working cooperatively within the following parameters.

MAJOR AREAS OF STUDY (but not limited to)

-Tuning

-Chromatic exercises

-Chords (open, bar, power)

-Musical Theory (how to read music)

-Major/Minor Scales

-Songs (Classical, Rock, Blues, and hopefully any songs that you want to learn)

-Songwriting

-Performance and Recording (if time permits)

ASSIGNMENTS

You will be graded on the completion of your Practice Logs, Participation, Progress, and Tests.  You will be asked to demonstrate what you have been practicing.  This is why your descriptions in your Practice Logs are so important.  You are expected to take part in any performances that have been scheduled.

AFTER SCHOOL PRACTICE TIMES

If you are struggling or would like extra practice time with supervision, please let me know.  I am available to ensure you make the progress you’re looking for!

I look forward to making music and inspiring the next generation of guitarists!

Here’s a great tool for you to find where each note is played on the guitar!
