Assignments

FRIDAY MARCH 20, 2020 UPDATE:

Hello again students & families!

We are going to be moving to a NEW GOOGLE CLASSROOM starting next week. I will be sending an email out to parents by Monday that will require a response, so please be on the look out for that. If I do not receive a response, I will call to confirm that you’ve received it. Students will begin to be asked to join the Google classroom and participate in a daily instructional video/slideshow, a daily bellwork, and weekly assignments.

The new codes for the Google classroom that students will join is as follows:

Science Google Classroom Code: 2irc3jw

Social Studies Google Classroom Code: e5fjpe3

Please have your student join as soon as possible. I know that they have previously been in a different Google classroom based on their class period with me, but this is a way to post to all of my students at once. They will need to join the new one. I will be holding live office hours every day as well.

As always, I am reachable by email at khoskins@laveeneld.org

March 16:

Hello students & families!

I know this is a trying and confusing time for all of us and we are still waiting to hear what will happen moving forward.

I have provided some guidance on the next step for their learning below. Students do not need to submit anything at this time, this is just recommended to help keep them on track!

For Discovery Education Techbooks: students already are aware of how to log in and I included instructions in the email I sent out to parents. To re-iterate, students should use their normal log in, but be certain that they have added (@stu.laveeneld.org) to the end of their username. They can find the Discovery Education link under the “Student” tab on the Laveen District website.

Social Studies: Students should begin reviewing Chapter 22.5 under the “Explore” tab. There are 10 pages and there are activities on pgs. 1, 3, 7, and 10. Students should annotate EVERY page fully (main ideas, words I don’t know, summaries, key details) and do all activities as they go through them.

Science: Students should review Chapter 3.1 under the “Explore” tab. There are 4 pages and activities on pgs. 1-3. Students should annotate every page fully (main ideas, words I don’t know, summaries, key details) and do all activities as they come across them. This includes the simulations.

I have also set up accounts for each of my students at www.usatestprep.com for both Science and Social Studies content! Students will use their chromebook username and passwords to sign into the site, but will also need the account ID (laveen37) to log in. Once they have successfully logged in, they should see that they have been added to a Science class and a Social Studies class. There are games, puzzles, practice tests, assignments, and performance tasks set up in both classes to help them review what we have learned as well as move into our next units. Again, for www.usatestprep.com, students will use their typical school chromebook usernames and passwords to log in as well as use “laveen37” as the account ID! I have already added them into the class.

Students can also use free resources on the NewsELA website that has an abundance of history and science readings with quizzes and annotation tools included! This website is great for students of all reading levels at it allows you to select the lexile to read the articles at. If you’re not sure of your 7th grade students lexile score and they do not remember, feel free to reach out.

If you have any questions, I am reachable at khoskins@laveeneld.org
