Teacher Bio

My name is Carlos Torres and I am the 7th grade science teacher. 7th grade was the school year when I received some of the most valuable advice I was ever given. My English teacher told us to keep reading no matter what happens. I did not know what this meant until I got older. During these current challenging times, I’m realizing that is true now more than ever. I want to encourage all students to never stop learning regardless of what is going on in the world or in their lives.

I earned my bachelors degree in biological sciences B.S. in 2014 and recently earned my masters in secondary education from ASU. I love learning at any opportunity I get. When I am not in our classroom, I am usually at the library. I consider the library my second home as I spend a good chunk of my days there. My favorite library to go to was always Hayden Library at ASU. Aside from studying, I spend my time playing video games and I am currently experimenting around in Unity to develop my own game one day.

This is my second year teaching 7th grade and my first year teaching mathematics. I have an inquiry-based approach to instruction in my math and science classes. As an educator, one of my primary goals is to show students that everything is connected and the skills they develop in other classes will be applied in my classes.
