Assignments

Students will be learning the art room expectations this week, including routines, procedures, rules, and so on.  I am reading “The Crayon Box That Talked” to Kinder – 2nd grade. They are creating crayons. In grades 3-6, students are playing a cooperative drawing game to design their own Lego person. Grades 7-8 are creating their own sketch books that they will use for drawing practice.

Our 7th & 8th grade students are working on self-portraits. During this unit, students will learn about the work of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, who is well known for her poignant and personal self-portraits. Students will receive instruction in drawing different parts of the face, and combine these into creating their own self-portrait. They will conclude by writing an artist statement and displaying their project as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month beginning September 15.
