For Kindergarten- 2nd Grade:

The main focus of music at this stage is to build upon fundamental musical skills, such as:

  • Finding and playing a steady beat.
  • Differentiating musical movement (up vs down, loud vs soft).
  • Singing and pitch matching.
  • Creating and recreating rhythm patterns.

For 3rd-5th Grade:

The main focus of music at this stage is to expand upon what they have previously learned by: 

  • Learning how to read and write in a musical notation system.
  • Learning more complex rhythms.
  • Applying what they know about musical movements to play various instruments, such as the recorder, ukuleles, and mallet instruments.

For 6th-8th Grade:

The main focus of music at this stage is to explore music and sound through technology

  • How to write lyrics, and the connection lyric writing has to ELA.
  • How to create and record Foley sounds.
  • How to use a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) to:
    • Create beats
    • Record audio
    • Create a jingle.
    • Create a ringtone.
    • Learn about music production
