For Kindergarten- 2nd Grade:
The main focus of music at this stage is to build upon fundamental musical skills, such as:
- Finding and playing a steady beat.
- Differentiating musical movement (up vs down, loud vs soft).
- Singing and pitch matching.
- Creating and recreating rhythm patterns.
For 3rd-5th Grade:
The main focus of music at this stage is to expand upon what they have previously learned by:
- Learning how to read and write in a musical notation system.
- Learning more complex rhythms.
- Applying what they know about musical movements to play various instruments, such as the recorder, ukuleles, and mallet instruments.
For 6th-8th Grade:
The main focus of music at this stage is to explore music and sound through technology
- How to write lyrics, and the connection lyric writing has to ELA.
- How to create and record Foley sounds.
- How to use a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) to:
- Create beats
- Record audio
- Create a jingle.
- Create a ringtone.
- Learn about music production
