Week of 5/4/2020

Monday- Read all three sources and discuss the gist (main idea) with a family member. Practice reading passage #622

Tuesday- Reread all three sources and answer the questions. (Turn in). Make sure to watch the youtube video (link below) where I go over each question. That way you get a good grade the first time and do not need to retake the assignment. https://youtu.be/jn63qZBMrts Practice reading passage #622

Wednesday: Re watch all four videos (links on google classroom) to review what an argumentative essay consists of. Then, reread the notes that you took a few weeks ago on argumentative essays. Finally, plan your essay. Use the provided outline for the planning of your essay. Practice reading passage #622

Thursday and Friday: Write your essay. Re watch the youtube videos as necessary. Make sure to write a multi paragraph response that includes an introduction, body, and conclusion. Do not forget to include at least one counterclaim and be mindful of our writing norms. Make sure to read the page that contains the directions for task 2, part 2 as I have included notes to clarify the writing prompt. Practice reading passage #622 and then record yourself reading it for one minute on FlipGrid (Turn in). 

 

Week of 4/27 – 5/1

Monday: Watch the brainpop video, “Mark Twain” and “Stage Fright”.

Tuesday: Read, “My Papa, Mark Twain”.

Wednesday: Read, “Mark Twain’s First Vacation” and “According to Mark Twain”. Answer the questions on the google form, use all passages read throughout the week to find the answers.

Thursday and Friday: Read, “An Encounter With An Interviewer” and respond to the writing prompt on google classroom.

M-W: Also, do not forget to practice your six minute solution passage #621

Th.-F: Upload your reading of passage #621

Week of 4/20 – 4/24

Monday – Watch the video, “Climate Change”, on www.brainpop.com and then work on the Earth Day Digital Escape Room.

Tuesday/Wednesday – Read, “Couch Potatoes’ Tend to be TV-Energy Hogs” and answer the questions.

Thursday/Friday –  Rewatch the video, “Climate Change” and reread the passage, “Couch Potatoes’ Tend to be TV-Energy Hogs”. Then respond to the writing prompt posted on google classroom.

Week of 4/13/2020

Monday- Read the drama, “The Prince and the Pauper” pages 554-571. First read, get the gist of the story. Practice reading passage #619 of your Six Minute Solution Passage.

Tuesday- Read the drama, “The Prince and the Pauper” pages 554-571. Second read, review the story elements (major and minor characters, setting; time and place, theme, rising and falling actions, climax, etc.). Practice reading passage #619 of your Six Minute Solution Passage.

Wednesday- Read, “From, The Prince and the Pauper” pages 572-575. Get the gist of the story and review the story elements. If possible, discuss the gist and story elements with a family member. Practice reading passage #619 of your Six Minute Solution Passage. Optional Activity: watch the movie “The Prince and the Pauper”.

Thursday and Friday- Reread “From, The Prince and the Pauper” pages 572-575. Write an objective summary for this story. Attend the google Meets Hangout to review objective summaries. Practice reading passage #619 of your Six Minute Solution Passage and turn in recording of your reading.

Week of 4/6/2020

This week students will be introduced to Dramas/plays.

Monday-Tuesday. Students will read about the elements of drama what makes a drama/play. Students will take a quiz on their readings.

Wednesday-Friday. Students will read the drama “From, Your’e a Good Man, Charlie Brown”. They will discuss the main idea with a family member. Reread the drama and then answer the questions regarding internal and external conflicts, as well as the theme of the drama.

Students will also work on their reading fluency by practicing their six minute solution passage. They will upload this onto FlipGrid.

Students also have daily bell work to practice their language skills.

Quarter Four

First of all, I hope everyone is healthy and safe! Classwork for the first few weeks of quarter four will be uploaded onto google classroom. Please check on there often for any updates on assignments. If students and/or parents have any questions regarding these assignments, please feel free to email me.

Week of Apr. 16th

AZMerit:
State testing continues this week! It is important that your child is in school, everyday, on time. It is also important that your child has a good, healthy breakfast to start off the day. Please talk with your child about the importance of trying their best on their exam. Please note that any student who is pulled out of school early on testing days will not have the option of finishing their test any other time.

Parent Survey:
Students were given a parent survey. Please answer the questions on the survey and return it as soon as possible. This survey will help our school improve in all areas for the upcoming school year. 
 
Book Order:
Scholastic Book orders are due on Tuesday, April 17th. :
 
Missing Assignments:
There are many students who have one or more missing assignments. Missing assignments are posted visibly in the classroom and student’s are referred to them everyday. Students need to take responsibilities of their missing assignments. If your child has missing assignments I will be contacting you via email to let you know. 
 
Closed Campus:
Our school will follow a closed campus model in the morning and afternoon. Thank you for your patience, especially with dismissal. 
 
ID’s:
Students are required to wear their ID’s every day, all the time, while in school. It is part of their uniform. No exceptions.
Homework:
Students homework consists of a reading log and any unfinished class assignments. Many students have not been consistent in turning in their reading logs in the past. Please make sure your child is reading every night and filling out their reading log. 
 
Gum Chewing:
Students have been warned against chewing gum in class. Our carpet has been ruined with multiple gum stains etc. If any students are caught with gum, the consequence will be more than a warning.  
 
Google Classroom:
Some of the assignments students might be missing can be found on google classroom. Here are the steps on how to sign in:

Scooptacular:
If students want to buy Scooptacular ice cream, they can do that every Tuesday for $2.00.
 
Lunch Application:
If you have not filled out a lunch application form for your child(ren) please do so. Even if you are certain that your child(ren) do not qualilfy for free or reduced lunch prices, filling out an application is beneficial to our school. Go to www.ezmealapp.com to fill out online. 
 
Headphones and Mice:
If students would like to bring in their own sets of headphones and a mouse to use with their chromebook they may do so. It is their responsibility to take care of these items. 
 
Fry’s VIP Card:
If you have not linked your Fry’s VIP card to our school, Paseo Pointe, please consider doing. This is an easy way for our school to get money. 
 
Tax Credit:
Please consider donating to Paseo Pointe through tax credit. Please contact our front office if you have questions about this. You can also visit our district and school website for easy to follow steps and how to donate to our school. 
 
Sunny D Labels:
Please donate Sunny D Labels to our class. For every 20 labels, our class can get 20 free books!

Laveen Spring Festival:
Our annual Spring Festival will be this Friday, April 6th in the Laveen Education Center. Please support our district by attending this Spring Festival. 
Science Fair:
Thank you to all families for helping your child turn in a science fair project investigation on time! Also, thank you to those family members that were able to attend our class science fair last Tuesday, it was a great success! Two of our students from our class will be moving on to the District Science Fair that will be in May. That is awesome!
