Tuesday, December 13th: ELA and Math Galileo Tests

Good Evening Families,

Hope all of you are having a good evening!  Just a friendly reminder that the ELA and Math Galileo tests are tomorrow.  ELA is in the morning from 8:00-10:00 and Math is in the afternoon from 12:00-2:00.  The students do their personal best when they have a good night sleep, are to school on time, and eat breakfast.  Please encourage them to do so, as always.  Thank you for all of your support with this.  I know the students will shine on these tests!  They have spent this quarter working hard and learning the information.  Now, it is time to see how far they have grown.  I gave them an incentive for doing their personal best and staying focused throughout the tests.  They are encouraged to do so!  🙂  Hope you have a great rest of the night!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lewis

Weekly Update 12-6-16

Good Evening Families,
I hope everyone had a wonderful week!  Only 5 instructional days until our next Benchmark Galileo Tests!  It is the week of December the 12th.  We have been reviewing and learning to prepare for those assessments.  Also, we posted our class goals on our data wall in the classroom to remind ourselves of the expectations we have to attain those goals.  The students have been hard at work.  I am extremely proud of them.  Listed below are the standards I will be teaching and the students will be learning next week.  Please continue to remind your child to get a good night sleep and eat breakfast in the morning.
A reminder that our 4th grade music concert is on December the 8th from 6:00-7:00 p.m.  Also, our District Winter Festival is Friday, December the 9th from 5:00-7:00 p.m.  Hope you can attend both!  Have an enjoyable weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lewis

Weekly Update 11-23-2016

Good Evening Families,

This Thanksgiving, I want to say that I am so thankful that your child is in my class and to be working with all of you.  Here is our week in review (see attached pictures, also)…
In math, almost all of the students have mastered long division!!!  🙂 Woooohoooo! They have really done their personal best and I am so proud of each of them for how far they have come.  They also participated in math centers today which focused on both multiplication and division standards.
For science, the students have been working hard on creating their erosion and weathering powerpoints.  A few of the students have already presented and have done a FABULOUS job!
During reading, we have been learning about main idea and supporting details. They have been practicing their fluency by partner reading the curriculum text and using their graphic organizers while asking each other comprehension questions.
For writing, the students learned about when to use capitals and practiced their spelling words.  Next week, we will be focusing on opinion writing.
In social studies, the students have created a powerpoint on the Inca, Aztec, and Maya Civilizations.  They were able to pick and research their favorite after learning about each.
What a great week we had this week!  Looking forward to next week.  If you celebrate Thanksgiving, enjoy all of the food and spending time with your loved ones.
With many thanks,
Mrs. Lewis

Parent/Guardian Volunteers

Good Evening Families,

The first drawing for parent/guardian volunteers will take place at the November 22nd PTA meeting at 6 p.m. in the library.  They will draw two winners.  Each winner will receive a $50 Target giftcard!  All you have to do is volunteer a little bit of your time either inside or outside of our classroom.

Volunteer opportunities include, but are not limited to:
  • Helping a small group with their multiplication facts (flashcards)
  • Coping papers
  • Read to students
  • Practice spelling words with students
  • Provide editing help for writing assignments
  • Listen to students read
I hope that if you have time that you take advantage of this opportunity.  It would help tremendously.  Plus, your child would love to see you!  🙂
After you volunteer, stop by the office to get your parent volunteer ticket to add to the drawing.  Thanks so much for all you do!  Hope to see you soon.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lewis
