Attendance Update

Hi everyone! Thank you for your patience about attendance procedures.

Here is an update:

You do not need to be on Google Meets Live in order to be marked present for the day. You have 24 hours to complete the work.

Per state attendance requirements (from Gov. Ducey), students will be marked present if they complete their work within 24 hours (by 8:00 am the next day).

If you cannot complete the work on a specific day, it is okay. I want your child to learn and grow, so completing the work is important!

Make sure that your child completes all their work when they can because we are keeping a record of completed assignments.

If anything changes, I will keep you posted.

Please let me know if you have any questions,

-Mrs. Buechel

Happy 1st Day of School!

Good morning parents and students! Happy 1st day of school foe the 2020-2021 school year!

It has come to my attention that many families are experiencing Chromebook login issues. Here are the troubleshooting steps.

1. Restart the Chromebook (It may take a couple of times)

2. In the bottom corner, click the wifi signal and connect to your personal wifi connection.

If the problem persists, go the parent orientation website and fill out a help desk ticket under the home tab.

Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we enter distance learning!

See you at 8:00 am for the Parent Orientation!

More information on Remote Learning

Hello Families:

I am reaching out to all my students and their families to provide some information on what to expect throughout our closure. Schools are expected to be closed through March 27. Please take a moment to read the following information. Please respond that you have read it so I know that it reached you.

Academics and Educational Resources:

Teachers have been working to develop lessons and resources that you can work on at home with your children. In addition to all curriculum materials being available online, we have developed an Online Resources website, where you can find various resources to help your child keep up with academics. This can be found under the “Students” tab on our district website, www.LaveenSchools.org.

Please remember that your child will need to log in to our curriculum platforms in order to access the material. If you do not have your child’s login information, please contact me and I can provide it to you. One single sign-on through Google gives students access to all of our digital curriculum programs  Watch this video for details on logging in.

Please be aware that all Laveen schools have strict internet filtering when a student connects from our server. Once you use your personal device, this filter is not available. Please monitor your child’s internet usage as they will be able to explore whatever sites your home computer allows. Be sure to watch this informational video, also on the website, for parents on how to filter home internet, Internet Filters to Keep Kids Safe Online

Internet Connectivity

If you do not have wi-fi or are unable to access the internet at home, Cox Communications is offering one free month of internet access to qualifying low-income families through their Connect2Compete program. T-Mobile is also offering an EmpowerED data plan.

Free Meals for Children

Despite school closures, Laveen schools are providing free breakfast and lunch to all children. Families may visit any Laveen school (except Vista) for a grab & go bag. Breakfast is available from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and lunch is available from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday- Friday.

Children must be present to take a meal. Adult meals are not available. Families do not need to register for meals and there are no income requirements.  Children do not need to be Laveen students. The district plans to expand this service to off-site locations in the coming days.

Child Care:

We know that some parents cannot work without childcare. For families needing this service, Laveen’s Kids Club will operate a day camp program that provides structured activities in a safe, supervised environment for children in grades preschool – 6th. This will take place at two locations, Desert Meadows and Paseo Pointe. The cost is $35 a day or $120 per week (preschool is $125 per week). A three-day plan is also available. The hours are 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Our Kids Club staff is cognizant of the importance of a clean environment and incorporates cleaning with a bleach solution as part of their regular protocol. Children and staff showing any signs of illness will be sent home. Please visit our Kids Club page for details.

Remote Learning Online Letter Due to Coronavirus 2020

Hello Parents!
In order to continue the students’ learning over the two weeks, I will be sending assignments daily through Google Classroom of learning materials previously taught throughout the year. Students will receive credit for completed assignments.

Steps on how to log on google classroom:
Step 1: Go to classroom.google.com
Step 2: Your child will login with their usual login information with @stu.laveeneld.org at the end of their login. (Example: jbuechel@stu.laveeneld.org) *If your child is unable to remember their login. Please send me a dojo message or email at jbuechel@laveeneld.org. If you are already logged in to a google account, you will need to log out in order to login the students account.
Step 3: Press “Sign in” in the top right hand corner. Students will be asked to use their password which they should already know from logging on the computers at school.
Step 4: Once logged in, students will click on their class folder and may begin their assignments for the day!

Please know that I don’t want to add stress to an already stressful time. Have your child complete what is helpful for them and your family. Old-fashioned flash card math fact practice is always a good idea, and strategy games are great for getting kids to plan and organize (Checkers, Monopoly, Mastermind, Sequence, and Yahtzee are good examples). And if kids are reading for pleasure, it’s a win-win!

Please feel free to send me a message if you have any questions. Look for daily posts on ClassDojo, on my teacher website, or in google classroom to see what students will be working on for the day starting tomorrow at 8:00am. All assignments will be posted for the day in their google classroom by 8:00am.

Thank you and stay healthy!
