What We Are Learning… November

7th Grade –

We are continuing on with life just before the American Civil War. After covering slavery and sectionalism we are now talking about Westward Expansion.

The Louisiana Purchase, Lewis and Clark, The Donner Party, Mountain Men, the Oregon trail, the California Gold Rush, and the Mexican American War will all be topics covered.

Students will be asked to create a survival kit for life on the frontier!

8th Grade –

Students are creating their Causes of the American Revolution projects. Stay tuned for photos!

Then we will take a break to cover the 2016 election.

After that we will wrap up or American Revolutionary Unit by covering the battle of the war.

Student of the Month – November – Heidi Minjarez!

What really sets Heidi apart is her ability to self-reflect. She always asks to have her work checked before handing it in. She is always asking for help when she does not understand something. Her curiosity and passion for Social Studies is second to none. She asks great questions, and I always see her utilizing the chromebook to dig deeper into topics than what I cover.

What we are learning… Week of 10/17

7th Graders –

We are learning about how the North and the South drifted apart leading to the Civil War. Topics covered include sectionalism, slavery, the economies, and heading West.

8th Graders –

This week we are presenting our “Fight For Our Right’s” research project where students argued against a law they disagreed with. We also cover the propaganda, motive, and bias involved in the Boston Massacre.

September 11th Remembrance.

This week I called an audible and spent the last two days discussing 9/11 and its importance. The students have never been more engaged and were really touched by the stories, images, and videos they witnessed. Some students had very emotional responses and left my class visually shaken and in some cases in tears. I apologize that this message is coming before and not after the lesson. I was not anticipating the reactions I got from the students. If your child has any questions please try your best to answer them, and let them know I am always here to answer any questions they have as well.
