Teacher Bio

Hi!

I am Ms. Givens, this year I will be teaching English in 3rd grade. This will be my 5th year at Paseo and I am looking forward to another amazing academic year. I have been apart of the dual language program for the last 2 years, and enjoy watching the students tackle the learning of a second language. I am also working on learning Spanish so that I can be able to speak the language as well.

Prior to joining the 3rd grade team, I have also taught 1st grade and Kindergarten. I enjoy teaching and watching students progress in their learning. I believe that every single student has the ability to learn! They may not all learn the same way but they will learn whatever is being presented to them.

My teaching style is a hands-on approach with active learning through the use of stations, reading and writing workshops, and math exploration. I work diligently to make learning fun! By having a chance to make appropriate choices children are empowered to reach new heights in learning. I strive to teach children to learn to read strategically and methodically.

I believe in a strong home and school connection, that by working as a team we will help your child be the best he/she can be in third grade. I pride myself on instilling a lifelong love of reading and learning in my students. Most of all, I want your child to feel successful every day and to love school and learning.

One of my favorite sayings is – “Don’t judge a book by its cover!” In other words, open it up and read it or get to know the person before you make an assumption about what they can or cannot do.

I truly enjoy teaching! I am looking forward to getting to know you all…students and parents, and am looking forward to having a wonderful year at Paseo Pointe! By working together we will help your child excel beyond your dreams as we continue to build your child as a learner this year.
