I would like to take this opportunity to THANK all of my wonderful students who made this an unforgettable year in my history of teaching. I am truly amazed how voracious your minds were in learning so many things in a span of 10 months. Your innocent mishaps, funny utterances, and reactions were just adorable but were definitely learning experiences for me. Thank you for making my days filled with so many emotions and memories that have made me realize that imperfections are what make growing and learning so perfectly beautiful. Thank you for making me remember that being a teacher is my happiness. Watching you crave to learn is my happiness. Most importantly, you are the reason for my happiness!

Yes! to Project-Based Learning

IMG_2098 (1)

This past week was an exciting one for the kindergarteners. The students were so invested in creating their very own 3 Little Pigs House using recycled materials that they identified, gathered from their homes and brought to class.

This activity started off by listening to a classic children’s story, “The Three Little Pigs”. Then on Tuesday, the students individually created their blueprints for their houses. The next day, they got into pairs and teams. I made them present their own plans to each other and by Thursday, they were told to finalize their projects. On Friday, May 18th, they went full throttle and got their hands on their recycled materials to create their models. After all their hard work, building, rebuilding and finalizing, they ultimately got to present their products to the entire class and to a special guest, Mrs. Wartak, our Speech Therapist at Cash. Everyone was able to test the excellence of the designs by trying to emulate the huffing and the puffing of the Big Bad Wolf. It was a beautiful sight to see the sparkle in my students’ eyes and the smiles on their faces when they found out that their “house” is durable enough to endure the Big Bad Wolf’s destructive huffs and puffs. Do you want to see their projects? Please visit our Gallery tab for more pictures. Thanks!

MC Cash Kinder Invites Valley Metro to School

IMG_1863

The kindergarteners were able to get up close and personal with Phoenix’s city transportation Valley Metro driver and bus unit. The students were introduced to the important parts of the city bus. They were also educated about the safety procedures of using a mode of transportation provided by the city. The students got to drop their “imaginary bus coin” into the fare box. The highlight of the in-school field trip was a chance to be the driver as they sat in the driver’s seat and hold the steering wheel. They also got to announce to their “passengers” where they were headed to! This visit was in conjunction with our ELA Wonders Curriculum and our Social Studies standard regarding the different community helpers and the jobs available in our community. Check out our Gallery to see for yourself how much the students enjoyed the visit!

2018 Kinder Muffins with Mom

The kindergarteners celebrated their mothers, aunts, sisters, grandmas last Friday, May 11th. In honor of these amazing women in our students’ lives, the kindergarten team hosted a Muffins with Mom Day. The event started with a “Read-to-Me” portion where they read a book to their 5-year old. After which, they enjoyed a muffin or two and refreshments.T he celebrated women received a potted plant, which the students hand painted themselves. They also took home a handful of arts and crafts to show their child’s love and appreciation of the wonderful things they do and they are in their everyday lives. Thank you to all who participated! Please check out our Gallery for pictures.

Fly, Butterflies, Fly!

On April 27th, our kindergarteners participated in the Annual K Butterfly Release. The 5-year olds watched in amazement as the one-week-old butterflies timidly and cautiously fluttered out of their nets. As the last butterfly hesitated to let go of the net, the Kindergarteners started chanting, “Fly, butterfly, fly!” It was such a magical 5-minute experience for all present that morning. Especially when Ms. Sandomir, Ms. Goodwin, Ms. Davis (whose birthday was the same day of the release), Mr. Kinsel, Ms. Martinez and Ms. Delcy came to support us and witness this annual Science activity here at MC Cash School. Please check out our Gallery tab on the Home Page for more pictures and videos. Thank you to all!

Mr. Patrick, the school’s music teacher, assigned songs to each grade level to sing in front of parents, families, teachers, and friends. As a finale, all performers sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Iz Kamakawiwoʻole with their colorful outfits: purple, gold, green, yellow, red, and blue. Good job, Mr. Patrick! Good job, kiddos!

Just a few days ago, our school principal, Ms. Sandomir, announced to the entire school during her morning messages that MC Cash is an A+2018 School! This is the second round that our school has been given this title. MC Cash first received the A+ label in 2014. Schools are to reapply every 4 years to maintain such a prestigious status. Please come back and visit our page for information on upcoming celebrations and activities regarding this milestone Congratulations to all the students, parents, community/neighborhood, staff, teachers, and administrators of MC Cash!

Google Expeditions AR

Yes, it was an out-of-this-world experience! Last March 26th, our class was able to interact with Google Expeditions AR (Augmented Reality). My students were able to observe dinosaurs and experience the different weather patterns as an extension of our Science lesson that supports the standards S6C3PO1, PO2, PO3. The students’ million dollar reactions and expressions were indeed worth remembering.

With Expeditions AR, teachers can bring the world into the classroom to help engage students with immersive lessons. Expeditions AR uses Google’sTango technology to map the physical classroom and place the 3D objects for students to observe and interact with. (Google, May 17, 2017)

Long Vowels Are Comin’

images

As we started the 4th quarter this week, we also began learning about the long vowels with the “silent, magic e” at the end. It is going to be so much fun learning how to read and write words with our “Magic e” friend. I hope that you will also try to find these words in your child’s daily activities and conversations. Good luck and happy reading to all!
