Monday, August 27th, is the first day of testing for the Galileo pretest. Students in 1st-8th grade will be taking their pretests from Monday to Wednesday. The kindergarteners will NOT take the test but will follow the change of lunch and Special area class schedules to accommodate the needed test times of their “big kid” friends at Cash School. So, to all of those students and teachers who will take part in the test, just keep calm and do your best!
Classroom Updates
It’s Raining 2D Shapes
Next week will be filled with so much fun for we will start learning about 2D shapes. I hope that you can support your child master this standard by playing a simple game called “I Spy a 2D Shape”. You call out a shape, describe it and let your child repeat the attributes then send your child on a 2D shape hunt. Be careful though, this game can get really addictive! Have fun hunting!
The Sight Word “I”
Our first sight word of the year is………. “I”! Have fun singing along with the attached video!
The Sight words Go Marching In
Can you believe that we will start our second week of school already? Well for those who are ready for it, I would like to announce that we will also start learning our sight words for this year. We have a total of 40 sight words that we will learn from our McGraw Hill Wonders curriculum. The list of the quarterly sight words was sent home with your child in his/her folder. Kindly help your child practice and repeat reading and using these words in daily conversations. Your full support on this goal is really appreciated.
If you are unsure what sight words really mean, I have included a link to a video/article that will simply give you an idea what they are and their importance in your child’s English language development and success. Enjoy!
Congratulations!
Yes, we made it through the first week of school with BIG SMILES!
It is such a pleasure to have spent the first week of school with a great group of students like you. I am also pleased to have met all the parents and families whom I call my “partners” on this wonderful road to a successful year in kindergarten. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents who have completed and returned all the necessary forms from the front office and the cafeteria. Your cooperation and patience are impressive.
I can’t wait to create tons of learning and amazing memories with you all. Again, let’s do this together. Let’s make this a year to be proud of.
Are You Ready for Kindergarten?
I hope that everyone is as excited as I am for the coming school year. As we prepare for a successful and fun-filled year, may this video help ease those “first day of school” jitters.
Let’s all get together and say, “We can do it! Welcome to a great year in Kindergarten!”
