Good Morning,
I hope you are doing well during this unprecedented time in our nation. I know there is much anxiety right now, but I want to thank you for your patience and amazing support you are giving as we work to implement online learning for your child.
Laveen teachers, administration, and district professionals have been working diligently to streamline how you receive resources, as well as utilizing various online learning platforms and communications. We are fortunate that so many companies are providing free access to their product during this time. Our goal is to work together with our staff and our families to provide the needed academic supports for our students.
The Arizona legislature has been providing guidelines for schools to follow in these difficult times:
SB1693 and HB 2910 were just passed Thursday evening. These bills state that public schools must offer general education opportunities as determined by the public school for the duration of the statewide closure. Additionally, public schools may deviate from the statutory requirements relating to special education programs, but shall attempt to ensure that each student who receives special education services has access to these educational opportunities. School districts will be required to attest to the State Board of Education and/or the Arizona Department of Education the manner in which we complied with this new legislation.
Daily Assignments/ Instruction Time: I will continue to send out daily updates and activities for your child to complete, mostly through Google Classroom.
My office hours, will be 12-2pm.
During this time, I will be able to offer immediate support for you or your child. Please have your child add themselves to my flip grid class (link is on my math google classroom). I will be posting an announcement every day around 12 pm. This will give you/your student the opportunity to log on, respond to my announcement and ask any questions (or just say hello) that you have for the day. I will be answering emails during this time as well. If I receive your email or inquiry outside of my office hour time slot, I will be sure to get back with you before the end of that “work day” by 4:00 pm. Although the lessons provided will be assigned by day, they are available for students to access at any time and at your family’s convenience. Our special education teachers will continue to reach out to provide services and support to the extent that they are able to in this new online format.
Attendance/ Grades/ Participation: We will track student participation rates and collect evidence of student learning for our records; however, it is not our intention to penalize a student who is unable to participate. If there is something that we need to know about your child’s participation, please let us know. We will be more than happy to work with your family to help get the work completed. We will reach out to those families who are not participating to determine what additional assistance is needed.
As with any new program roll-out, there will be refinements as we gain experience and move forward with remote instruction, so we will keep you informed as we learn more. If you call the school office, please leave a voicemail, as our office staff will be checking these messages throughout the day. Again, thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue through this uncharted territory together.
Ms. Wolff
