Week 3 News

Hello Parents,

Just a reminder that Curriculum Night is tomorrow, August 24.  It will be held in Mrs. Zuckerman’s room (Room 33), in the fifth grade hallway.
We will be hosting three different session times for your convenience.  You will only need to attend one, being that they will all provide you with the same information.
5-5:40PM
5:45-6:25PM
6:30-7:10PM
If you attend (with or without your child), you will receive a free dress down pass for your student to redeem this Friday August 25.
In other news:
Please make sure you are checking student agendas for homework and signing them.  The students have math, vocabulary, spelling, and reading log practice each week.  They are given some time to work on it in class, but it is imperative that they are taking about an hour each night to work on their homework.
Take some time to have your student check through their binders at home, we are still missing a large number of signed forms (Quarter 1 Incentives, Library Permission Slips, Class Conduct Forms, and any forms you need to sign for the office).
If you are looking to donate any supplies, we are always looking for sanitizer, copy paper, tissues, Clorox wipes, lined paper, dry erase markers, index cards, and post-it notes.

Welcome Back!

Hello Parents!

I am just checking in with all of you after a great first week! After working in the third grade for the past three years, I am excited to be back in the classroom with your fifth graders!
This week we have been really working on getting organized, since we are switching with Mrs. Bahler’s  class for Reading, Writing, and Social Studies.  If you see an email from her, don’t fret, it’s also from me!
If you are still missing any supply items, please let me know if you need any help purchasing them! I want to make sure that we are all set. With that being said, donations are always welcome. We will be needing things like paper, pencils, Clorox Wipes, hand sanitizer, and tissues. Can’t seem to get enough of all that!
It is imperative that your child is here, and on time to school everyday.  The students line up at 7:20 am, and the bell rings at 7:30 am when class begins.  Your child will be marked tardy if they come to school anytime after 7:30 am.
Our quarter one incentive will reward:
*all students who have 5 or less absences and tardies
*all students who receive no “N” grades for effort in quarter one
*all students who receive no office referrals for behavior.
This year the fifth grade teachers have decided to host a dance party as their incentive.  We hope this motivates your child to come to school everyday, work hard, and follow the expectations of the PACT in order to ensure their success
This week, since it’s a new year, we have been working really hard on our Panther PACT. We have a way to use our PACT (Showing our Personal Best, Being Accountable, Being a Critical Thinker, and Being Tolerant). Please feel free to talk to your children about how they can show these types of behaviors in the classroom.  The PACT could most definitely transfer into your home to help practice these skills for school.  Some possible activities could be to do some dishes, help with homework, share with siblings, follow home expectations, and be ready for school in the morning without your help!  Wouldn’t that be nice? 🙂
Homework will vary as the weeks progress, but expect to see a vocabulary choice board, and spelling to 30 menu go out on Mondays and will be due on Fridays.  The students will be given time in class to work on these assignments as well.  These will come from Mrs. Bahler.  I will send out a math review page on Mondays that will be due on Fridays.  There will also be a reading log sent home on Mondays, that will be due the following Monday.  Your student is required to read for 30 minutes, and answer ONE prompt at the bottom per week.
Please let me know if you have questions or concerns, and be checking my webpage for big ticket items and checking their agendas on a daily basis. I want to make sure that we are a team!
