Dear parents and guardians,

We are so grateful for all of the support and words of encouragement as we are all entering very new territory.  Please know that we plan to be as flexible and understanding, as every household is facing different challenges.  With that being said, I want to address a couple questions that have come up, as well as outline daily work.
Will our child be spending as much time completing distance learning as a school day?
No, the daily amount of work for students will be 60-120 minutes per day for all subjects combined.  The teacher may suggest other practice if students are looking for and have time for additional work.
Does our child have to be online at a certain time?
No, as we are very aware of different schedules for different families, students have the flexibility to complete work at a time that is convenient for them and your family.
Daily Expectations:
1.  Answer the Community Time Google Classroom Question- this is how attendance will be taken each day
2.  Watch or look at the video or resources from your teachers in all subject areas (Mrs. Melton, Ms. Maldag, Ms. Long).  These daily videos and or resources will provide directions about the activity for the subject, direct instruction or other useful pieces of information. There could be multiple resources to reference before jumping into the actual activity for the day.
3. Complete the activity or lesson for the day in each subject area
– It will be extremely important for students to hit the submit button if the activity calls for it. This is how we will no the assignment is done and ready for the teacher to review.
– Specials area teachers will be posting assignments/activities on the day your child would typically attend that special. Example Day 1- Mrs. Melton’s class goes to music, on day 1 Mrs. Simpson will post an assignment or activity to Mrs. Melton’s google classroom.
Mrs. Melton, Ms. Maldag, and Ms. Long will try to run this distance learning much like a regular classroom, not all assignments will be graded for effort or academic.  The activities posted will be good practice for any assessments that will be posted.
Office Hours:
The 4th grade teachers will be online daily from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM to answer any questions or provide any support.  Of course you are welcome to reach out at any time and we will get back to as soon as possible, but within 24 hours during the work week.
If you have any questions feel free to contact one of us directly at
Mrs. Melton (math)- kmelton@laveeneld.org
Ms. Maldag (ELA)- kmaldag@laveeneld.org
Ms. Long (science/SS)- jlong@laveeneld.org
We are all greatly missing our 4th graders and together we will get through this.  Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we may make modification to better the experience for all.
