Change to Current Events for 7th and 8th Grade

Both 7th and 8th grade have been watching CNN’s student based program throughout the first half of the year. However, I have decided to change our current events up a little bit. Students will be picked to choose an article of current events that interests them. The students will have a write up about the article and will then present the article to the class in a short 1 minute to 2 minute summary of the article and why they chose it. I recommend the students print out the articles and staple it with their summaries or they can send the link and I will print it out and staple it for them. Previously current events were an effort grade but since this requires a little more than simply listing main ideas, it will become an academic grade based on ELA and Social Studies standards. And will be worth more points. I highly encourage you to help out your students, and email me with any questions.
