Classroom Information
Welcome to 2nd grade!!!
Thank you in advance for your support, involvement, and understanding!
Drop off/Dismissal:
Drop off: Gates open at 7:00am
Dismissal: 2:30pm
Change in dismissal plan: Your child’s safety is one of our top concern and priority. For this reason, changes in dismissal plans must occur between adults. If there ever needs to be any change in dismissal, please send a note, email, or call the school-the sooner the better. Last minute changes should be a direct phone call to the front office to ensure the message is received.
Parental Support/communication:
We greatly appreciate all parental support at home and in the classroom. Ways you can support our class, school, and your child include:
-Joining our PTA to make the greatest impact.
-Helping your student with homework.
-Signing and returning all forms in a timely manner.
-Checking your child’s backpack, homework folder, and calendar daily.
-Contributing to your child’s education by helping out in the classroom, and
-Stressing the importance of education at home and maintaining an open and honest line of communication.
Communication:
It is important to have an open and honest line of communication; please feel free to contact me by email at bgutierrez@laveeneld.org, leaving a message on my voicemail at (602) 304-2040 or by scheduling a meeting before or after school; my focus between 7:00-2:30 is dedicated to the class.
Homework:
Homework assignments may change throughout the school year- this will be based on what I see is needed for the class as a whole and individual needs. However, as stated in my expectations, I would like to see that every child is participating in reading at least 15-20 minutes every night. If you are in need of books or reading material, please let me know! Homework is a time for students and their families to work together. This is a time for parents to know and understand how their child is doing at school and progressing towards our goals. Homework is never meant to be a frustrating part of your child’s day or evening battle. Your child’s experience with homework is a great talking point during conferences.
Evaluation/ Report Cards:
I will evaluate your child in a variety of ways; one-on-one, work time observations, and group/individual testing. Students will bring home a progress report in the middle of each quarter and a report card at the end of each quarter. Additional reports and evaluations will also be sent home throughout the school year to monitor your child’s progress. It is important that your child meets and/or exceeds each benchmark target to ensure his/her academic success. It is important that all evaluations be discussed between parent and child to emphasize the importance of education at home.
Conferences:
There will be two conferences throughout the year. The first will be before fall break and the second is scheduled after winter break. Should your child need additional attention I will be reaching out for additional conferences. When the time comes, I will be sending home a signup sheet with more information. If at any time you would like to meet or schedule an additional conference with me, arrangements will gladly be made.
Classroom Management Plan:
For the next year, our class will be our “home away from home.” This is why I would like to ensure that we are all doing our part to make our classroom a safe and fun learning environment. I put forth 100% in my teaching every day and just as I have expectations for my students, I also share the ones I have set for myself. I believe the biggest component to my management plan is respect for individuality and choices.
As your child’s teacher I will…
-Be firm with any disruptions to the learning process, yet fair, and consistent with the rules and procedures.
-Offer guidance to self-control through positive reinforcements and choices.
-Ask that my students all try their best and be supportive of one another.
I thank you in advance for your support and understanding that,
Students who do not follow expectations or rules, will receive a…
- verbal warning
- Time out or Cool down time
- Phone call or infraction notice (based on the offense- 3 infractions may result in an office referral)
- Referral (severe offenses will go directly to a referral ex; constant disruption to the learning of others, fighting, bad language, etc… for safety reasons referrals can result in losing field trip privileges and/or involvement in special activities)
Birthdays:
Your child’s birthday is an important day and we would love to make him/her feel special. Birthday snacks may be brought in to share with the class however, all snacks and/or treats must be store packaged with labels-some examples include: Popsicles, cupcakes, cookies. We can take some time at lunch or the end of the day to recognize your child’s birthday but please avoid a party setup and juice will not be allowed in the classrooms.
Pictures/ phones in the classroom:
In order to respect the privacy of all students, we ask that any pictures taken, be of your child only and video recordings will not be allowed in the classroom. We thank you for your help in respecting the privacy and safety of our students. Additionally, when volunteering in the classroom, please silence your phone, take phone calls in the hallway, and do not allow students to play with your devices.
Thank you for all of your support. This is going to be a great year! If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
