Meet Your 5th Grade Teachers

Ms. Erler: Math

I am very excited to be teaching 5th grade math this year at Vista! This will be my tenth year teaching and my third year at Vista del Sur.  I love to read, to bake, and to travel (I was lucky enough to go to Chicago, Las Vegas, and New York City this summer!). I love Star Wars! While it’s hard to name a favorite droid (BB-8 or R2D2?!), my favorite non- jedi character is Han Solo and my favorite movie of the franchise is The Empire Strikes Back! My favorite kinds of math problems are finding the volume of shapes and converting between decimals, percents, and fractions.

In math this year, fifth graders can look forward to working with negative numbers, dividing fractions by fractions, solving equations with variables, finding the volume and surface area of shapes, and much more!

I truly believe that we are going to have a great year together! The best way to reach me is via email, at nerler@laveeneld.org

Mrs. Vega: Social Studies and Science

I am very excited to be teaching 5th grade Science and Social Studies at Vista this year.  This is my sixth year at Vista, and my second year teaching at Vista. I live here in the Laveen community, and my daughter and son also attend Vista. I am thrilled to be part of this wonderful community and amazing Vista family!  I find it extremely rewarding to be able to make a difference in children’s lives, encouraging them to show good character, and to always work to their full potential.

I am originally from Hillsboro, Illinois, moving to Arizona in 1998 and spending most of my time here in the Flagstaff area.  I have lived in Phoenix for 9 years now. I received my Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University this past Spring.  In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and baking yummy treats. I am looking forward to a wonderful year!

Mr. Dolecki: English Language Arts

This is my fifth year at Vista and ninth year as a teacher here in Arizona. It is my pleasure to continue to work with the Vista community.

Before arriving at the Laveen school district and Vista, I taught 5th grade for three years and worked with struggling readers through reading intervention for 1 year.

I am originally from Farmington Hills, Michigan. I attended Central Michigan University. FIRE UP CHIPS!  When I am not teaching I enjoy reading, being outside, trying new restaurants and spending time with friends.

I look forward to a great year of learning and growing. Welcome to the 2022- 2023 school year. Let the FUN begin!

We will be acknowledging and rewarding the students who consistently demonstrate positive behavior on class dojo.. These class dojo points can be redeemed at the class/school store.  Our expectations are easily remembered using “Tigers R.O.A.R.”
