Welcome to 2023-2024 Middle School math! I hope your summer was memorable and you are now ready to jump back into the adventure of mathematics! My name is Mr. Downs and I am the 7th grade math and 8th grade geometry teacher at Vista del Sur. This is my third year at Vista, and I’m excited for us to get back to the classroom and work together to succeed in math! When not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my wife and three children (all three attend Vista!), reading, and history.
I take an exploratory approach to mathematics, meaning we will be discussing problems and ideas to come up with solutions for concepts being learned. I definitely see math as a participation sport! We will be discussing what topics we’ll be covering in class during the first week or so. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
