Grading Policy

Students will receive two grades in this class, an academic grade and an effort grade.

Academic Grade

The academic grade is based on the standards in the course. You will be assessed using those standards and assigned a proficiency level for each standard.

  • A student is considered Highly Proficient if they score 90% or above on a standardized assessment.
  • A student is considered Proficient if they score 70% to 89% on a standardized assessment.
  • A student is considered Partially Proficient if they score 60% to 69% on a standardized assessment.
  • A student is considered Minimally Proficient if they score less than 60% on a standardized assessment.

To improve an academic grade, you may reassess one standard per week, with the new score replacing the original score. The academic grade runs through the entire year and does not reset.

Effort Grade

The effort grade is designed to reflect practice assignments, participation, and work completion. Grades are calculated using the following weights and cutoffs.

Assignment Categories

– Assignments

– Participation

– Notebook

Grade Cutoffs

Excellent = 80% or higher
Satisfactory = 60% – 80%
Needs Improvement = 59% or lower

All late work within the effort grade is penalized by 25%. Late work due to an absence does not receive this penalty. Late work must be submitted within the same academic quarter. Academic grades reset at the end of each quarter. A final effort grade is calculated by averaging all four quarters together.
