Online Resources for Students

Good evening,

The district has been working diligently preparing resources for your students. The following link provides great resources for your students access at home:

https://sites.google.com/laveeneld.org/onlineresources/home

This link can also be found on my teacher webpage!

Within this link, students should be familiar with the following websites:

  1. Khan Academy
  2. NewsEla
  3. Scholastic Reads
  4. MobyMax (we have used it once or twice in class.)
  5. I personally am excited to dive into the virtual field trips!

As mentioned before, this is a great time for your students to read and write.

Please keep in mind, that when students access the internet at school, the Laveen School District has a strict web filter that blocks advertisements, specific websites, and inappropriate content.  Please be advised that the internet experience for your child at home may be different than the experience they have at school. The resources shared on this site are educational. However, without a web filter at home, your child should be monitored as they access the resources on this site.

All the best,

Mr. Schneider

Semester 2 Syllabus

WELCOME to the second semester of our 6th grade school year. The second semester is going to be intense as we prepare for our annual AzMerit State Testing and our district NWEA tests. The first semester was dedicated to learning number sense, ratios, proportional reasoning, and algebraic vocabulary. The second semester will be dedicated to algebra, geometry and statistics. This quarter, there will be some slight changes to the class routines. Please read the changes and acknowledge that you have received and understand the changes by filling in the form below.

Classwork and homework: Classwork and homework will still be weighed on the same scale.

4/4 = all problems are answered
3/4 = most problems were answered
2/4 = half of the problems were answered

0/4 = Missing or less than half of the problems were answered

  • Points may be subtracted for not showing work or not following assignment directions.

Late Work- There will be a strict no late work policy in place. All classwork is due the next day. Students are expected to turn in their work during their class time. If there is a question about the homework, students will have time to ask in class before we start our daily lesson.

Make-Up Work
When absent, it is the student’s responsibility to find out what was missed and to turn it in within 2 days. I will do my best to assist in this matter, but ultimately, it is their responsibility. Work will receive full credit when turned in within a reasonable period of time (two days of make-up time for each day you are absent). Many class lectures and assignments can be found on connected.mcgraw-hill.com (the link is in the google classroom).  Students are responsible for making arrangements to get work when planned absences occur. Besides when absent, NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Extra Credit Policy & Procedures
Extra credit assignments are given periodically, and are for all students.  Students have a CHOICE whether they would like to participate or not.  Extra credit will be offered at the teacher’s discretion.  Students should not rely on extra credit as a means for getting a high grade in the class.

After School Office Hours
Math help is available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:40 – 3:40.  If a student needs help with homework or remediation they are welcome to stay.  Transportation will need to be arranged by parents, however.

Parents
I look forward to embarking on our journey through this 2nd half.  In order for us to maximize our learning, I need your support. I will be keeping you informed of your child’s progress by phone, email, and through updates.  Please contact me with any concerns or information about your child that would be helpful for me to know. Also, email communication is the best form of communication for me. I am able to check emails periodically throughout the day. Please make sure I have a valid email on file for communication purposes.
