CHEATHAM/LAVEEN BAND COVID-19 UPDATE (3/19/20)
INSTRUMENTS
If you left a personal instrument (owned or rented), you will be able to pick it up from school during the closure. School-owned instruments will not be distributed at this time. If you need to get an instrument or music from school, I will be at each school for a two hour window (see below for schedule) to help distribute instruments. Please stop by during this window as I will not be on campus otherwise. I will wait at the front door by the main office to let you in; if you arrive and don’t see me there, wait a few minutes because I am probably in the band room getting an instrument and will be back shortly. I am unable to leave the front door unlocked so that is why I’ll meet you there. Here are the times that I will be at each school:
LAVEEN: Friday, March 20 from 10:00am-12:00pm
CHEATHAM: Friday, March 20 from 12:30pm to 2:30pm
CONCERTS
As of right now, the Laveen Honor Band concert is cancelled, which is, so far, the only confirmed performance cancellation. There has not been an announcement yet regarding the Betty Fairfax High School combined concert for grades 7-8. An end-of-the-year concert with all grade levels will be scheduled, if possible, whenever school resumes.
ASSIGNMENTS
Sousa’s March Mania: This is a daily assignment for extra credit only and is not required. If you would like to participate, go to classroom.google.com to join our Google Classroom with the code skirw5n. There you will find daily instructions. Each day’s assignment takes about 10-15 minutes and will be worth two bonus points each. The first assignment will be posted on Thursday, March 19.
Practicing: 5th graders, I recommend you continue working on songs from the book that we have played in class. Feel free to try some more challenging songs that we haven’t played yet. If it’s looking like an end of the year concert is still happening, and we are still out of school, I will send a list of specific songs to practice for the concert. 6-8th graders, I recommend working on Avengers or Rey’s Theme if you need to, as well as the Betty Fairfax music for grades 7-8.
